Celtic Cross-Vigil Practice
Upcoming New-Year Release:
Dear brethren, friends, and readers in Christ,
I hope each of you have had a blessed and joy-filled Christmas season — and for our Slavic friends, may the coming Nativity also be received in peace and grace. As we now stand on the threshold of a New Year, I send this brief update and blessing from St Andrew’s OCC.
We are pleased to announce that a major new historical-theological publication is now scheduled for release in the last week of December 2025:
Upcoming Article — A New Year’s Release
“The Crosfigell or Cross-Vigil in Celtic Orthodoxy: Sources, Theology, and Practice”
This article represents one of the most rigorous treatments ever assembled on the ancient Céli Dé crosfigell — the cruciform vigil posture practiced by early Celtic monks such as those of Tallaght, famously performed with arms extended in the sign of the Cross, sanctifying the four directions and offering prayer for Church and world.
The upcoming publication will include:
Direct quotations from primary Irish texts (in Old Irish & English translation)
Academic source citations with full URLs for verification
A structured, modern-use practice guide for clergy, laity, & monastics
A historical contextualization within Tallaght, Mael Ruain, psalmody, and penance
Custom artwork commissioned specifically to accompany this teaching
For now, you may view the teaser placeholder on the website, which includes the reference list, giving a taste of what is coming:

We pray its release will be a gift to the Body of Christ — assisting all who desire to renew Celtic liturgical identity, restore physical-prayer disciplines, and reclaim what once shaped our spiritual ancestors.
HOLIDAY / OFFICE NOTE
During the coming weeks, our offices and pastoral administrative lines will be partly closed due to Feast-season rest and pilgrimage. Responses may therefore be delayed. Thank you for your patience, prayers, and continued support.
May God bless you and keep you through the dawning of 2026 — and may each of us rise strengthened in the Cross of Christ, as the sun rises over the East.
In Christ our King,
St Andrew’s Orthodox Culdee Communion
and the Priory of Salem Institute of Peace Studies
