Our church of St Joseph’s at Orange County California adopted this as the emblem across all our publications in the year 2000. It was one of my first acts once I was ordained by the board as Editor of our newsletter.

Several thousand articles were subsequently published and seen by millions (mostly online).

Once I went on mission to Europe (where I remained for 13 years) this was shown across countless advertisements in Europe and Britain as a rally standard for people to find our messages online, to find encouragement and align. The main base of the cross is a victory standard (Christ’s Victory) really used and seen anywhere in Christian lands. We pray and hope people will embrace Him again. We must all rely on Christ, and come back to His good laws for nations and peoples.

It is the shield of St Joseph of Arimathea, with the adaptation of the Chi Rho (which Constantine’s British mother, a descendant of St Joseph via King Coel, had popularized) together with the Alpha and Omega victory of Christ Who is the beginning and the end.

Many other slogans have been used, IN HOC SIGNO VINCES (in this sign conquer).

Chi Rho is the Greek abbreviation of the word for Christ Jesus. Using various abbreviations and short prayers are part of the Orthodox ways and traditions to fulfill: “Acknowledge Him in all thy ways and He shall direct thy paths.” (Pro 3:6) “Let your conversation always become the Gospel...” (Phil 1:27)

We’ve seen something like this happening again in England with the raising up of the standards of St George (which is the standard of St Joseph before him), which later became the standard of Crusaders. However, I think they will need to become a bit more religious to see such efforts come to a fruition.

Brethren,

There is something powerful happening this year.

For once, the timing aligns in a way that allows many across Christendom to stand together and proclaim the same truth at the same time:

Christ is risen. He is risen indeed.

But this is more than a greeting.
This is the very center of our faith.

The Scriptures declare that Christ:

• died according to the Scriptures

• was buried

• and rose again the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)

And not only this—

👉 He is the Firstfruits (1 Corinthians 15:20)
👉 the Firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29)

This means something deeper than many realize.

From the beginning, God established that the firstfruits belonged to Him, and that the firstborn was to be redeemed (Exodus 13:2; Numbers 18:15). These were not random laws—they were prophetic. They pointed forward to Christ.

And now, in Him, we are brought into that same reality:

A new creation. A new birth. A new life.

Yet many today—seeking to return to what they believe is “more biblical”—have stepped away from the very day that proclaims this fulfillment.

They remember the sacrifice.
But they neglect the resurrection.

They study the shadow.
But miss the substance.

They return to forms that came later—
and overlook what the apostles themselves continued steadfastly in.

Brethren, this should not be so.

The resurrection day—Pascha, the day of Firstfruits—is not a man-made tradition. It is the moment when:

• death was overcome

• the harvest began

• and Christ stood as the Firstborn of a new people

This is why the Church has always gathered at dawn.
This is why we proclaim it.
This is why we keep the feast.

And this is where our Celtic Orthodox way stands firm:

Not abandoning the Hebrew foundation—but fulfilling it in Christ.

Not discarding Scripture—but living it out as the apostles did.

This year, we invite you:

👉 Come at dawn
👉 Pray
👉 Proclaim the resurrection
👉 Break bread in remembrance of Him

According to the Biblical model of reckoning, we are observing the beginning of the year one day later this year, based on the visible crescent sighting from Jerusalem, which places the start of the month on March 20. Several are still accounting it based on March 19th.

However, it is written, “the lights in the heavens are for signs” (Genesis 1:14). For this reason, we follow the principle of what is revealed and confirmed, rather than the unseen conjunction. This approach is consistent with the long-standing practice of anchoring observation to a central location—Jerusalem—so that all may be unified in timing.

Historically, signals were relayed so that, as Scripture notes, “in every city Moses is preached” (Acts 15:21), ensuring that the appointed times could be known across regions. Today, while we have far greater tools available, the principle remains the same: a confirmed, visible sign from the land.

In our review, we have considered various modern calendar efforts, including resources such as BiblicalCalendar.org, as well as other observational projects (e.g., renewedmoon.com and similar sighted-moon efforts). While some of these come close in their projections, we maintain that the Jerusalem-based visible crescent provides the most consistent and Biblically grounded anchor.

We also note that we do not base the calendar on barley conditions, as seasonal variation in the Jerusalem region allows for multiple agricultural stages within the same cycle. Therefore, we remain committed to the astronomical and observational signs in the heavens as primary.

Accordingly, we are proclaiming the appointed times as follows:

This is not about defending tradition for tradition’s sake—it is about restoring clarity, and more importantly, restoring Christ to the center of what has always been His.

Quick Overview (Key Points at a Glance)

A Word of Encouragement

The early Church did not gather around speculation, nor did it build its worship on borrowed myths. It gathered around Christ crucified and risen.

“Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.” (1 Corinthians 5:7)

And we are exhorted:

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” (Hebrews 10:25)

This is not merely about correcting an argument—it is about returning to a proper understanding of the faith once delivered, and standing together in the unity of the Church, proclaiming what has always been true:

👉 The feast is not about rabbits.
👉 It is not about confusion.
👉 It is about Christ.

“Which are a shadow of things to come; but the substance is Christ.” (Colossians 2:17)

But today, many are starting to speak as if certain groups of people are more powerful than God Himself—able to act freely, punish at will, and control everything without limit.

That simply isn’t true.

Scripture makes it clear: even the devil is on a leash. Nothing operates outside of God’s ultimate authority. No group, no system, no force has that kind of power.

Yet many are being pulled into a pattern that distracts them from what actually matters. They spend endless time trying to figure out who is “behind everything,” who is “controlling the world,” who is “pulling the strings.”

And what does it produce?

Very little.

At its core, much of this comes down to one repeated idea:
“Calling the whip is bad.”

People are trying to identify the “whip”—the force they believe is controlling, punishing, or harming society. They point to groups or systems and say: this is the source of all the problems.

But in doing so, they miss something essential:

Only God is the ultimate authority. Only God disciplines.

Scripture already tells us—when people go astray, God, as a loving Father, allows correction. He trains and disciplines His people to bring them back into alignment. That responsibility does not belong to us, and it certainly does not belong to any group being elevated to an all-powerful status.

This doesn’t mean there are no real problems in the world. There are. But when people start acting as if certain groups are all-powerful, they are giving them a level of authority that simply does not exist.

And this leads to a cycle:

• Constant accusation

• Endless speculation

• No real action

• No building, no producing

If someone truly uncovers a real conspiracy—meaning an actual effort to commit a crime—there are real steps to take:

• Go to law enforcement

• File a report

• Speak with an attorney

• Take action where evidence supports it

That’s how real issues are handled.

But what we often see instead is people spending their time online, repeating claims, escalating narratives, and never actually doing anything about it. Over time, this becomes a trap.

And it gets worse.

People can drift into harmful generalizations that damage their own credibility, isolate them socially, and even cost them opportunities, platforms, or employment.

Here’s the deeper problem:

The more someone believes they are completely controlled, completely oppressed, or completely powerless—the more they begin to live that way.

They stop building.
They stop creating.
They stop moving forward.

They become stuck.

So yes—there may be pressures in the world. There may be forces that act like what we’re calling “the whip.” But simply repeating “the whip is bad” does nothing to move forward.

And more importantly—
the whip is not ultimate.

God is.

God may allow correction. He may use difficult circumstances to bring people back into alignment. But that does not make those instruments supreme, and it does not mean we should fixate on them.

Fixation leads to distraction.
Distraction leads to stagnation.

So instead of being consumed by speculation and accusation…

Let’s return to what actually matters:

• Building

• Serving

• Creating

• Strengthening our families and communities

• Walking in truth with clarity and discipline

Let’s get busy in the Kingdom.

What an amazing season this is for celebrating our Celtic heritage of Christendom. We have two full weekends of parades and public festivities before us, and yesterday, on the Feast of Saint Patrick itself, the day was especially action-packed — filled with prayer, ministry work, and collaboration with brothers from Ireland. It was a blessed and encouraging day, and it reminded us again that Saint Patrick’s legacy is not a relic of the past, but part of a living work that still calls us forward.

I would also ask your prayers for one ministry effort in particular. We are helping work toward the founding of a new Celtic Church mission in Switzerland. This is a serious missionary effort and there is real financial need if it is to succeed. If you know anyone who may wish to help, please do let us know. This is not only about preserving Celtic heritage, but about reaching our lost Western European brothers and sisters with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As an ethnic Orthodox communion, we often find ourselves in minority status in most countries of the world, yet we are not afforded the minority protections and provisions commonly granted to others. Please keep this, and our other missions across the West (and East) in your prayers.

Below I am sharing this newsletter in two parts: first, a Saint Patrick emphasis for Christendom and the early monastic and missionary influence of the Celtic Church; and second, a commemoration with Saint Patrick’s Breastplate and a concluding prayer.

Saint Patrick must not be treated as though he appeared in an empty land or in a spiritual vacuum. One of the great mistakes of modern retellings is to flatten the story and act as though Ireland had no earlier sacred foundations worth mentioning. In reality, the traditions of Ireland and Britain preserve a much older heritage, and Patrick’s greatness shines all the more when understood as part of a broader apostolic and early Christian stream. We are tired of the watered-down versions. We want to help wake people up to the scale of what was actually taking place in these lands. Patrick was not merely a symbolic missionary figure dressed in green for modern celebrations. He was a champion of Christendom, a great consolidator of the Celtic Church, and a spiritual warrior whose witness helped gather, strengthen, and order Christian life across Ireland and far beyond it.

Among the names and traditions often discussed in this earlier stream are Conall Cernach, remembered in Irish tradition as a great warrior of the Red Branch and, in some accounts, one converted at Jerusalem by Christ Himself; Conor Mac Nessa, associated in some traditions with sending his druids to Glastonbury to meet Joseph of Arimathea; Saint Cathaldus, linked with Irish missionary influence abroad; Saint Abben; King Donald; King Cratilinth; Saint Heber or Iber; and others whose witness or memory shows that the Christian story in these lands was far richer and earlier than many now assume. Later historical witnesses such as Irenaeus, Tertullian, Eusebius, and Chrysostom also stand as important testimony to the spread of Christianity among the Celtic nations and the British Isles.

Saint Patrick’s greatness, then, is not reduced by mentioning those who came before him. Rather, it is magnified, because he appears not as an isolated figure but as a mighty consolidator of Christendom in the West. Through him, what had been more scattered and local became more visibly ordered, rooted, and enduring. Armagh, the coarbs of Patrick, and the leadership stream that proceeded from that see became central to the Irish Church. In our own Culdee understanding, this was not merely a matter of later bureaucratic hierarchy, but of spiritual fatherhood, ordered communities, and the school-church life that shaped both clergy and people.

The Culdees, or Céle Dé — the Servants of God — carried forward this life of prayer, discipline, learning, and missionary witness. Their traditions influenced far more than Ireland alone. The monastic and missionary movement associated with the Celtic Church extended across Europe, and our own articles continue tracing this influence into major regions and centers. This wider continental story also requires mentioning Chrodegang clearly. He was Chamberlain and court bishop to Charles Martel, and stands as a very important figure in the transition by which earlier monastic and ecclesiastical patterns were gathered, regularized, and extended in Western Christendom. He belongs in this conversation because the shaping of Christian order on the continent did not happen in a vacuum, but in dialogue with older missionary and monastic foundations, many of them Irish and Celtic.

At the same time, the Irish Church maintained a distinctive identity. It respected Rome, corresponded with Rome, and worked with Rome where possible, yet it also preserved its own patterns and often addressed the Roman bishop more as a brother bishop than as an unquestioned earthly superior in every matter. Over time, later Benedictine and Roman structures built upon many of these earlier Celtic foundations. Another important visual centerpiece for this season’s message will be the image of Saint Patrick on the official seals of Glastonbury Abbey. This deserves emphasis. The common and recognized seals of the Abbey, in both church and secular record, bear witness to a much stronger Glastonbury connection than many modern simplified tellings would admit. I will be placing that image prominently as one of the main pieces of artwork in this commemoration.

And so, in celebration of Saint Patrick’s season, and in honor of his role as Apostle of Ireland, champion of Christendom, and spiritual conqueror who drove out the serpents of error and darkness, we now turn to prayer.

Saint Patrick’s Breastplate

the strong Name of the Trinity,

Commemoration of Saint Patrick

The commemoration of Saint Patrick, Apostle and Father of Ireland, chief bishop and teacher of the Gaels, who was chosen of God to bring the light of Christ to that land, and by the power of the Gospel drove out the serpents of error and darkness.

According to the ancient tradition of the Irish Church, he founded many churches, ordained bishops and clergy in great number, and baptized multitudes into the faith of Christ, establishing the Church throughout Ireland.

In Prayerful Agreement with All Christendom

Beloved in Christ,

As we enter the sacred fast of Lent, we do so not in isolation, but in agreement with all Christendom throughout the world. From East to West, across ancient liturgies and faithful assemblies, the Church humbles herself together in prayer, fasting, repentance, and renewed devotion.

This holy season leads us toward Easter — the fulfillment of the Feast of Passover — when Christ, our true Paschal Lamb, was offered and rose in victory. The dating of Easter itself reflects this fulfillment, as it is historically calculated in relation to Passover. What was foreshadowed in Egypt is fulfilled in Jerusalem. What was typified in the lamb is completed in Christ.

Lent is not sorrow for sorrow’s sake — it is preparation for glory.

Christ Commands Seasons of Fasting

When questioned why His disciples did not fast as rigorously as others, Christ answered:

“The days will come when the Bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.”
(Matthew 9:15; cf. Mark 2:20; Luke 5:35)

In this statement, He establishes a new covenant pattern in which fasting increases after the Ascension, not decreases. The Church lives in the days when the Bridegroom is hidden from sight, and therefore we fast — not as despair, but as longing.

Lent is the Bride’s preparation.

Sacred Time Practiced in the Apostolic Church

The Apostles themselves continued this rhythm of sacred time.

The New Testament records:

• Corporate fasting — “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted…” (Acts 13:2–3; 14:23)
• Appointed gatherings — “Upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together…” (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2)
• Instruction not to neglect assemblies — “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” (Hebrews 10:25)
• Freedom to honor days unto the Lord — “One man esteemeth one day above another… Let every man be fully persuaded… He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord.” (Romans 14:5–6)

Rather than abolishing holy days, Saint Paul forbids schism over them. Sacred time was not erased — it was fulfilled and rightly ordered in Christ.

The Ashes and the Palm Branch Connection

Fire, Tabernacle, Lamb, and Resurrection

At St Andrew’s Orthodox Church of the Culdees, we observe the meaningful tradition of using ashes made from palm branches.

These palms carry layered biblical meaning:

1. The Feast of Tabernacles

At Sukkot, Israel waved palm branches and dwelt in booths, remembering God’s provision in the wilderness (Leviticus 23:40–43). Each year they cried:

“Hosanna” — Hoshana / Yahsha Ana — “Save us now.”

The Gospel proclaims:

“The Word became flesh and tabernacled among us.” (John 1:14)

Christ fulfills Tabernacles. He is the One who dwelt among us.

2. The Entry of the Lamb

Those same palms were raised when Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey — the day of the selecting of the Lamb — and the people cried again:

“Hosanna!”

He entered as King, yet also as the Lamb who would be consumed upon the altar of the Cross — our Passover fulfilled.

3. Ashes of Purification

These sacred branches, once waved in rejoicing, are burned and reduced to ashes. The ashes mark our foreheads at the beginning of Lent.

Victory becomes purification.

Hosanna becomes repentance.

Palm becomes ash.

Scripture reminds us:

“For if the ashes of a heifer… sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh…”
— Hebrews 9:13

In the Hebrew tradition (Numbers 19), ashes were mixed with water to sanctify the unclean. Fire transformed sacrifice; ash sealed purification.

Thus the Lenten ash is not superstition — it is scriptural symbolism fulfilled in Christ.

Incense in Every Place

We also remember the prophetic word:

“In every place incense shall be offered unto My Name…”
— Malachi 1:11

Lent is not mere abstinence — it is intensified worship. As our fasting ascends, so does our prayer, like incense before the throne of God.

Walking Toward Pascha

As we begin this Lenten pilgrimage:

• Let us fast as those awaiting the Bridegroom.
• Let us keep incense rising.
• Let us honor sacred time without division.
• Let us remember that the ashes speak of cleansing and renewal.
• Let us prepare for the Paschal fulfillment of Passover in Christ our Lamb.

We walk together with the historic Church, awaiting the radiant dawn of Resurrection.

If there’s government sponsorship as mentioned, then it falls into ‘war crimes’ codes of state medical experiments. Anyone involved (or subscribed) are enabling criminal networks which coerce children into getting themselves castrated, and into environments that is only defined in law as ‘pedophilia’ (pre-teens learning “pole dances” for gay bars, various strip dancing etc). All of which are major felonies.

The Nuremberg code for state medical experiments, include when there is coercion and state involvement. The children are being strongly told by such networks to learn strip dances (even at public libraries, but this often starts on the netflix programming).

They get the pre-teens (and younger) to dance for the older adults and then line them up around the corner at hospitals to get their sexual organs permanently removed etc. They’re coerced and told to do these state-medical-experiments to supposedly ‘change their gender’ at any whim etc. These pre-teens are often changing their minds about the procedures only after it’s too late. These children, are now grown up and are suing the hospitals /physicians etc who lead them to do it. They would have never thought to do so if they weren’t told to. Thank God places like Texas, Missouri, and Alabama are banning these horrific practices on children, at least in their jurisdictions.

Gen. Nathan B. Forrest once said of the Black men who stayed with him during the war:

“These boys stayed with me… and better Confederates did not live.”

Thanks to the late H.K. Edgerton, we decided to do a deep dive and put the strongest historical sources in one place — Congressional records, Reconstruction newspapers, Northern battlefield reports, and named Black Confederates — all confirming that 45 loyal Black Southerners stood with Gen. Forrest, contrary to modern public opinion.

Forrest went on to say in multiple records:

“No finer Confederates ever fought.”

People really don’t want to admit this.

But facts are facts.

The people (nation) and their posterity have the inalienable rights.

However, that doesn’t directly answer why the left avoids the word Nation, and prefers the word State at every turn.

We need to just look at the basic of the “American Nation” as legally written in Federalist Paper number 2 by John Jay, who was the highest official of the law.

This definition of Nation was celebrated by all of America’s Founding Fathers.

We’re not talking about all the temporary structures of Governments and States, but of the existence of the nation as a people itself.

Notice in any such documents as it pertains to states serving the national people (as defined below), the ‘nation’ can always throw off the forms of governments. However what is the fundamental criteria of the existence of any nation itself. If a government goes to negate that it ceases to be of us, by us, or for us.

Simply because deceptive corruption elevated a police to seek ‘erasure’ of the existence of the nation, this does not make it legitimate government.

The people are enumerated with the right to protect what serves the definition of a National people (as highlighted below). “Life” is the number one right. Destruction and death of what it means to be a people would be the opposite of this constitutional mandate of the current chosen government.

Please clearly read the definition of the American nation, by this pivotal founding father, Justice John Jay, Federalist Paper No 2.

Across medieval Britain, Wales, and continental Europe, a remarkable convergence of royal, ecclesiastical, and Trojan traditions shaped how early British history was understood. Welsh annals, Glastonbury chronicles, Frankish genealogies, and the Brut tradition all preserve overlapping memories linking Britain not only to Rome, but to Troy — and even to the Holy Land through Joseph of Arimathea.

These genealogies were not marginal curiosities. They were copied, transmitted, and treated as authoritative by monks, chroniclers, heralds, and royal genealogists for centuries. They informed kingship, church origins, and national identity.

Today, much of this material survives only in scattered manuscripts and early printed books. At Celtic Orthodoxy and Celtic Press, we are gathering and presenting these sources so readers can engage the tradition directly.

What follows is a concise explanation of how these traditions intersect — followed by reference groups documenting their manuscript foundations.

Joseph of Arimathea, Anna, and the British Royal Line

Welsh ecclesiastical and royal sources preserve a lineage linking Joseph of Arimathea through Anna to Bran the Blessed, and onward through Lucius and Cadwalladr.

Independent Welsh manuscript authorities corroborate this tradition outside of later antiquarian summaries. John Rhys and David Brynmor Jones, in The Welsh People (Oxford, 1900), identify Bran as son of Llyr and Penardim, while demonstrating from early Welsh materials that Penardim was sister to Beli, and that Beli himself appears in medieval pedigrees as Beli Mawr, mab Anna (“Beli the Great, son of Anna”), preserved in Jesus College MS. 20 (13th century). Rhys and Brynmor Jones further record a Welsh tradition stating that Anna was said by the men of Egypt to be cousin of the Virgin Mary. This same identification appears again in royal Welsh genealogies, where Anna is explicitly described as “cousin of the Virgin Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

These materials were later incorporated into the Annales Cambriae (Rolls Series, Longmans, 1860), which preserves the descent of the British royal house through Bran and Anna, alongside the parallel imperial pedigree through Empress Helena to Constantine the Great. Patrick Montague-Smith (The Royal Line of Succession with Genealogical Tables, Pitkin, 1968) confirms that this Welsh royal stream ultimately feeds into later English royal lines.

Taken together, these independent manuscript traditions — Welsh, ecclesiastical, and royal — preserve a continuous memory linking Anna (associated with Joseph of Arimathea), Bran the Blessed, Lucius, and Cadwalladr within Britain’s early sacred and dynastic history.

This lineage exists alongside the much broader tradition that Joseph of Arimathea personally led the first-century British Church at Glastonbury, a subject documented across numerous ancient manuscripts and cataloged here:

Arthur and the Glastonbury Joseph Tradition

Glastonbury sources extend this sacred genealogy further. John of Glastonbury preserves a lineage connecting King Arthur directly to Joseph of Arimathea through Helaius, Josus, Josue, Aminadab, and Ygerna (Igraine), concluding that Arthur descended from the stock of Joseph.

Parallel Grail traditions describe Joseph’s son as guardian of the sacred vessel until Arthur’s time, reinforcing the same ecclesiastical memory. Although many Glastonbury records were destroyed during the Dissolution, these traditions survive through quotations, derivative manuscripts, and medieval compilations.

Troy, Brutus, and Britain’s Foundation Narrative

Running alongside the Joseph and Welsh royal traditions is the Trojan foundation stream preserved by Geoffrey of Monmouth and the Welsh Brut literature. In this framework, Britain is founded by Brutus of Troy, descendant of Dardanus, and the royal line proceeds through early British kings to Lucius and Cadwalladr.

Later Frankish genealogies attempted to harmonize this Trojan-British stream with Roman imperial succession and early Frankish kingship, producing the Romano-British → Frankish → Pharamond synthesis seen in medieval royal tables.

Why These Genealogies Matter

Whether viewed as sacred tradition, royal mythography, or ecclesiastical memory, these genealogies shaped Britain’s identity for centuries.

They were used to legitimize kings, define church origins, and unite Britain with Rome and Troy under a sacred historical vision:

Troy → Britain → Rome → Franks → Saxons

Medieval royal rolls deliberately inserted Brutus and Arthur into dynastic charts — not as fiction, but as national theology.

This group focuses on the long medieval tradition of Brutus as Britain’s eponymous founder, as preserved in chronicles, later adaptations, and antiquarian compilations.

1. Nennius, Historia Brittonum
   — The earliest text to mention Trojan ancestors for the Britons (later expanded by Geoffrey). Often dated c. 9th century.

2. Geoffrey of Monmouth, Historia Regum Britanniae
   — Codifies the complete Brutus → kings genealogy; the foundational medieval source for anyone writing British national history through the Middle Ages.

3. Brut y Brenhinedd (Welsh redactions of Geoffrey’s Brut)
   — Middle-Welsh adaptations that circulate widely in Welsh manuscript tradition; many include genealogies not found elsewhere.

4. William Camden, Britannia (1586, expanded later)
   — Renaissance antiquarian work that treats early British legendary history including Brutus and his supposed descendants — important for showing early modern acceptance of the tradition.

5. Raphael Holinshed, Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland
   — Elaborates on Geoffrey’s version of Brutus and the early British kings; influential for Elizabethan and later writers.

I want to share with you the proper usage of the word "race", which was more common in days gone by.
Examples abound, and I being a member of the Clan MacGregor, of course will recall, the Motto of our Clan plainly states: "My race is Royal" (‘S RIOGHAL MO DHREAM)

Any of the older dictionaries use the term more correctly. For example Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:
Race

RACE, noun [Latin radix and radius having the same original. This word coincides in origin with rod, ray, radiate, etc.]

1. The lineage of a family, or continued series of descendants from a parent who is called the stock. A race is the series of descendants indefinitely. Thus all mankind are called the race of Adam; the Israelites are of the race of Abraham and Jacob. Thus we speak of a race of kings, the race of Clovis or Charlemagne; a race of nobles, etc.

Hence the long race of Alban fathers come.

2. A generation; a family of descendants. A race of youthful and unhandled colts.

3. A particular breed; as a race of mules; a race of horses; a race of sheep.

Of such a race no matter who is king.

4. A root; as race-ginger, ginger in the root or not pulverized.

5. A particular strength or taste of wine; a kind of tartness.

A very clear, directly relevant instance is the celebration around the birth of Arthur, Prince of Wales, where court poetry hailed him as:

“O race of Arthur, issue of blessed ancestors …”

Various usages, such as “Race of Cymry”, “Race of Romans”, and “Race of Arthur” were common usages. You can take another example from the below history: "Sir George Neville anticipated with proud joy a restoration of the fallen race of Warwick, and regarded himself already as another king-maker of that house."

In the older laws, the definition of "race" was more clear (as also taught in any University), race meant a Clan family of the same lineage and inheritance. However, you could be totally not part of the same Clan or tribe, but look identical to those thousands of miles away, or half a continent. In laws for land claim to inheritance, the records always go back to prove 10 generations married from said lineage. This was very Biblical and not a foreign concept to any church anywhere in the world. Few governments obeyed it, and those ones were the most blessed who did (known as Christendom).
When you talk about the new definition today that's something else, which is more about types or species of mankind, which has nothing to do with the original word for race. Now the word has been mis-used to refer to different physical characteristics.

Lets get back to proper usage of these important legal terms of churches and nations.

Why do some Germans today seem drawn to Russia’s outward display of sovereignty?

It isn’t simple “pro-Russia” politics.

Much of the resistance to globalized governance — visible in parts of AfD’s support base — comes from eastern Germany, regions that lived under Soviet occupation and KGB oversight for more than 40 years, well into the 1990s. People there learned firsthand how centralized control works, how narratives are enforced, and how populations are managed. Many now recognize similar pressures emerging from the West — through shaming, ideology, and bureaucratic coercion — and react accordingly.

That reaction didn’t appear out of nowhere.

In Part 1 of our new Watchman series, I trace a largely forgotten chapter of European history: the forced deportation of millions of ethnic Germans from Ukraine and Eastern Europe under Soviet rule — and how erased communities and unresolved trauma continue to shape political psychology today.

We are pleased—at long last—to announce the release of one of the most significant liturgical studies St Andrew’s and the Orthodox Church of the Culdees has produced in recent years:

“The Crosfigell or Cross-Vigil in Celtic Orthodoxy: Sources, Theology, and Practice.”

This is not the invention of a new devotion, but the formal restoration of a living Culdee inheritance—a practice that many of our clergy and monastics have continued in simpler forms for generations, especially through prayer to the four directions. What is new here is not the prayer itself, but its recovery in full liturgical structure, so that it can once again be shared with—and understood by—the broader Church.

A word of thanksgiving

Some of you noticed that this release was delayed. During Rev. Dr. Stephen M. K. Brunswick’s recent pilgrimage and ministry travel in Europe, severe winter weather disrupted flights, luggage was lost, and more. Through God’s mercy—and your prayers—everything was recovered, and the journey completed successfully.

We are especially thankful to report that sacred church furnishings and liturgical materials were safely delivered and are now in place. God turned trial into blessing.

Why this release matters

The Crosfigell—also called the “Breastplate of Devotion”—was one of the most powerful bodily prayers of the Celtic saints. Standing with arms outstretched in the form of the Cross, facing the twelve sacred stations of heaven and earth, the monk or priest prayed:

“Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.”

This new study brings together:

• The Rule of the Céli Dé and Rule of Tallaght

• The testimony of Mael Ruain and the Culdee monasteries

• The Breastplate tradition of St Patrick and the Irish saints

• And modern scholarship confirming the Cross-Vigil as authentic spiritual armor

What once lived quietly among monastics is now being placed back into the heart of the Church.
